DEAR DIARY: One Thought For Day One

Sometimes the most profound conversations are the ones we have in complete silence. I have just remembered that joke: ‘It is fine to talk to yourself, and even to answer yourself, but it is sad when you have to repeat yourself multiple times because you were not listening.’

To put it another way, it is quite common for people to imagine a world free from limitations that is completely different from reality.

While I never get bored or lonely, I have learnt methods of escapism: how to enjoy and find comfort in my own company and how to spend weeks without speaking to anyone. I have found my own ways to keep myself occupied and connected:

When I do not sleep, I read, write, translate, sip coffee, drink red wine, attempt to quit smoking, travel, or regret that there are only twenty-four hours in a day.

Dream big, but live in the real world. Fantasy worlds are beautiful, but reality offers true opportunities to grow. After all, that is where we actually get to live them out.

There once was a thinker alone,
Who preferred a good book on his own.
He’d drink coffee at night,
And red wine till first light,
Then regret that the day had just flown.
